The Mangosteen tree which carries the mangosteen is native to Malaysian semi island in the gulf of Thailand. Today, the tree is spread around the south Asian tropics and is grown increasingly in that region.
The fruit of the tree have a purple peel and are harvested in late fall. The peel can be up to 9mm thick and protects the seeds from insects. The taste of the mangosteen is intense sweetish but also tart - he awakens each of your senses.
The dry frozen mangosteen is rich in antioxidants, contains vitamin A,C, D, E and various B Vitamins such as Niacin, folic acid, biotin, selenium, Pantothenic acid and magnesium.
Preparation: Add pieces of the fruit into fresh desserts, snacks, smoothies and chocolate or make muesli bars with it.
