Untreated organic chlorella from Taiwan in raw food quality
The chlorella used as a nutritional supplement is generally either chlorella pyrenoidosa or chlorella vulgaris. Chlorella is a green algae, and as such is characteristically different to blue algaes such as spirulina. For one, green algae grows in fresh water only.
One important feature of chlorella is its ability to absorb harmful substances.
Nutritionally speaking, chlorella and spirulina are very similar. As well as very high levels of chlorophyll, chlorella contains high proportions of vitamin A. The main ingredient of chlorella is protein, at over 60% this is higher than any other foodstuff (compare soya at 35% and beef at 32% protein).
Chlorella is naturally rich in a number of vital nutrients such as amino acids, vitamins, minerals, trace elements, fatty acids, carbohydrates, and beta carotene (provitamin A). Can contain vitamin B12
Chlorella is very well suited to athletes, vegetarians, vegans, and people who make a conscious effort to support their bodies.
