Alto Beni is a small municipality in the province of Caranavi in La Paz, Bolivia.
The groves of cacao trees range from Alto Beni to Palos Blancos, where 500 smallholders care lovingly for them. The region is known for its hot and humid climate, which is ideal for the growth of the trees and their fine quality cacao pods. The CIAAB cocoa bean is a hybrid variety, a unique combination of Forastero and Criollo beans, with a deep, earthy flavor. The Central Integral de Alto Beni Agroecologicia Co-operative (CIAAB) aims to co-ordinate and improve all the cocoa cultivation, as well as the conditions for the smallholders. In order to optimize the quality and control, the fermentation of cocoa beans was moved to Palos Blancos in 2012.
We feel it is important for us to support such projects and it gives us great pleasure to do so. With the purchase of this “SINGLE ORIGIN BOLIVIA” cocoa, you are also contributing to the welfare of the people who work hard every day to produce it.
